Today's blog header photo was taken at Poplar Forest on July 4, 2008. Poplar Forest was Thomas Jefferson's home after he left political life. It is a small Monticello and is a truly wonderful place to visit. (And it's just down the street and around the corner from our house.)
The family seen here plays period roles at various historic events around Virginia. They were a fun family to talk to and were quite knowledgeable about Poplar Forest and other historic Virginia points of interest. The mother demonstrated the method early Americans used to make many items from flaxincluding wigs and hair extensions. Pretty cool stuff.
