Letter from a Floridian

I received this in an email from a coworker and thought I should share it with you. Enjoy.

My neighbor is a "lefty" of sorts (Obama bumper stickers, gung-ho Socialized medicine, "guns should be banned", etc.). So this past spring I put this sign up in my yard after one of his anti-gun rants at a neighborhood Cocktail party. The sign wasn't up more than an hour before he called the police and wanted them to make me take down the sign. Fortunately, the officer politely informed him that it was not their job to take such action without a court order and that he had to file a complaint "downtown" first, which would be reviewed by the city attorney to see if it violated any city, county, or state ordinances, which if there was a violation a court order would be sent to the offending party (me) to "remove the sign in seven days."

After several weeks he was informed that the sign was legal (by a quarter of an inch) and there was nothing the city could do, which obviously made him madder.

I tried to smooth things over by inviting him to go shooting with me and my friends at the hunt club but that seemed to make him even more angry.

I am at a loss how to reconcile our long relationship (notice I did not say friendship). Any suggestions would be welcome.

Anyway, that's life in our neck of the woods, how about yours?

  1. I wonder if it's a true story or just a funny made-up one. Either way, it's great. I kind of hope it's true.

  2. The picture of the sign in the yard makes me think that part of the story is true. However, I think this story was probably made up by the person who took the sign but didn't likely know the origins of the neighborly dispute.

It is a great story though, isn't it? Where I live you'd be hard-pressed to find someone that doesn't have at least one gun per resident in their house.

  3. If the scenario is true, to what extent is the man endangering his neighbor? I think the man is setting himself up for a lawsuit if his neighbor gets robbed or shot.

  4. I think you're probably right, Dean. But I also think that a whole lot of other people would come to his defense and contribute to his attorney's fees just because they enjoy his sense of humor.

If I were his neighbor I'd be more upset about the insects those huge pink flowering bushes are attracting.

  5. Upon closer examination, is the sign photoshopped in? The legs look real, but the sign itself is questionable.

  6. Well - I didn't really want to say it, but I think the words on the sign are a product of Photoshop. They're too clear and sharp along the edges and seem to be along too straight of a baseline. I think the sign (including the arrow) are real.

  7. Just in the last week there have been 3 local news stories here, about husbands killing their wifes with the gun they had handy. PRAISE THE LORD. JESUS WOULD LOVE EVERY PERSON TO HAVE A KILLING MACHINE AT THEIR FINGER TIPS!!

Bye the way, do you have any comment on the Gun lovers who marched in a Federal Park in Washington DC. They claim their freedom is being taken away by Obama. The funny thing is that recently this President passed a law making it legal to carry a gun in a federal park. Had this same group had held their march under Bush, they would have been arrested. But somehow they've been brain-washed into thinking that a black President is taking away their liberties. It makes no sense.

PS. When i last posted on your blog, Mary told me that she was 100percent sure that God was drawing me in. It didn't happen. Why lie to people?

  8. Every person does have a killing machine at their fingertips, though they may not be aware of it, and I'm not going to be the educator on that. Worse than that though, every person has a killing machine inside the hole in their face.

  9. Tim,

Yes, I did say God was drawing you in. Did I also say you would favorably respond? Nope, but I did say that I would be praying that you would. I don't believe I have lied to you, Tim, and I know you don't believe that either.

    Mary

  10. Tim - If God's drawing you in, you will eventually respond favorably. God doesn't ever lose.

What I find interesting is that your comment here would indicate that you're not dead. Until the moment of your death, you cannot say that God has not drawn you. It ain't over until the fat lady sings.

Your first visit to this blog was almost exactly one year ago. You were worked into a lather because there was not enough skin melatonin variance in the pictures I posted about the tea party. Then in this comment you posted this time you again targeted the melatonin levels in the skin of our president. Perhaps your latent (or active) racism is getting in the way of your political observations.

If you research TRUE Christianity, it may help you to get over your prejudice. Christ came to people of all ethnicities, of all social/cultural levels, and of both sexes. No one has the upperhand in Christ's kingdom and no one is subjugated there either. We are all equal except that those who have the greatest leadership are those who show the greatest servanthood.

  11. Richard,

In your message you said, "IF"God is drawing me in. Why did you use the word "If"? Mary alread told us that she knew as a fact that God was doing it. Are you doubting her? I guess I'm just skeptical. I mean I can't even tell you with 100 percent certainty that the sun will come up tomorrow. But somehow Mary knows what Gods without a shadow of a doubt that God is working on me.

Can you honestly tell me that those on the right and in the Tea Party aren't fueled by racism? Honestly. Are the crowds honestly as diverse as Glen Beck states? Why am I not seeing the diversity on TV? Have you ever read the comment section on the Fox News website? Read some of those views and tell me these people aren't racist. On Friday there was a story about Obama oppossing the new immigration law in Arizona. 80 percent of those who commented had come to the conclusion that Obama (or "Hussain" as many referred to the President) oppossed the law because he himself is an illegal. Many who identified themselves as Tea Party members suggested we sent this low life President back to Kenya where he belongs.

I have so many questions! lol Why does Sarah Palin and the Tea Party critisize this President for trying to reduce the number of Nuclear weapons? Palin's comment was "“And Obama's new policy of restricting the use of nuclear weapons is thus just like "getting out there on the playground, a bunch of kids getting ready to fight, and one of the kids saying, 'Go ahead, punch me in the face and I'm not gonna retaliate. Go ahead and do what you want to with me” But President Reagan did even more than Obama has done to reduce these weapons. What's the difference?

    I'll stop now.

    Thanks

  12. Okay Tim, it's fair to want us to get our facts straight. Truth is truth. But you have to play by the same rules. Here is what I said as the last response to http://richgelina.blogspot.com/2009/11/why-does-god-allow-evil-in-world.html "Again, Tim, I believe with 100% certainty that God is answering you, or you would not return to this blog. I think He is drawing you. I think you are responding to the beauty of Christ in the faith that Rich and I share -- the peace in the midst of life's storms that we share. You see that we are thinking, reasoning individuals. You see that we can provide evidence for what we believe. You return because it's making some sense for once -- maybe you don't get it all, but for once, someone can back up what they say and be consistent. God has brought you here, Tim, and I want you to at least admit that the possibility exists that He is indeed answering your call... is it possible that it really is your answer??"

You misquoted me by saying that I had said, "I know with a 100% certainty that God is drawing you". I said, as shown above, "I THINK God is drawing you." However, I did say, "I believe with 100% certainty that God IS answering you." That's a reasonable statement, given what I believe. I wouldn't be grounded in my faith if I did not believe that. The reality is, Tim, you have not forgotten that statement. You are still asking the questions. You return to find some flaw here or a chink there in our armor to sooth your anger. I am going to post something that my pastor preached on Palm Sunday. And I thought of you when he preached it. You have saddened me by saying that I lie to people. I have been kind, gracious, and honest with you in each post. I am grieved that you now turn my honest answers, and the time I took to respond to you each time, and reduce it to ridicule and scorn. I have yet to do that with you when you disagree with me. I have counted you a friend, yet you treat me as a scoundrel.
