I Sought the Lord

I sought the lord, and afterward I knew
He moved my soul to seek Him, seeking me;
It was not I that found, O Savior true,
No, I was found of Thee

Thou didst reach forth Thy hand and mine enfold;
I walked and sank no on the storm-vexed sea,—
'Twas not so much that I on Thee took hold,
As Thou, dear Lord, on me.

I find, I walk, I love, but, O the whole
Of love is but my answer, Lord, to Thee;
For Thou wert long before-hand with my soul
Always Thou lovedst me.

  1. While we were His enemies, he died for us.

    It's hard to understand that sometimes when one has been a Christian since early childhood, but it's true for me just as much as for an adult convert.

  2. Romans 5:6-8 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die—but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

    What a wonderful passage of scripture! You're right, Lydia, it is so easy to forget that even as children we were such sinners that we were the enemies of God. And even so, he sent his son to die on the cross to restore the fellowship that our sin destroyed.

    Praise the Lord!
