Holding tenaciously to extra-biblical tradition

Wade Burleson at Grace and Truth to You has written a good synopsis of some recent events surrounding the patriarchy movement. This group is incredibly afraid of dissenting opinion. I have never seen people so quick to stop any vocal opposition before anyone else can hear what is being said.

Wade & Mrs. Burleson

Read Wade's article, "And What Is It About Patriarchy That Scares Us?" and consider what it means when a group of people cannot defend their positions and tries to shut down any dissenting arguments. This level of thought control goes beyond what is commonly seen in political debate and even beyond what typically happens in some of the more cultish religious groups. To me it looks more like the level of control exerted by totalitarian regimes.

This does not bode well for American Evangelicalism if it is allowed to continue.

  2. Thanks, Cindy. I am simply appalled at the fact that these people are invested so heavily in silencing all opposition and dissent. I can't understand why anyone would listen to such people for more than two seconds after they realize that all opposition is silenced immediately.

I was raised to humbly submit to spiritual leaders. But at the same time I was raised to measure all teaching against the plumbline of scripture and to reject it if it did not align perfectly. My father (a pastor) taught his congregation regularly that it was their duty to hold his teachings (and the teachings of all others) to the standard of scripture. And he taught them that it was their duty to correct him when they found him to be wrong. So it is very hard for me to understand when people willingly place themselves under the heavy yoke of traditionalists such as the patriarchy crowd.

Keep up your good work against these people too, Cindy. I really appreciated your podcast interview.
